AC Monza was founded on 1 September 1912 in the Lombard city of the same name, just outside Milan. On 1 September 2027 it turns 115. And it celebrates back in Serie A, the division it waited almost a century to reach.

Two teams become one

Monza Foot-Ball Club was born from the merger of two local sides, Pro Italia and Pro Monza. In November 1913, after another union with other clubs in the city, it took the name Associazione Calcio Monza.

The team became the heart of Brianza, the area north of Milan. That is why fans call it "Brianzoli", and also "Bagai". For almost a century it played in Serie B and the lower divisions, without ever reaching the top flight.

From blue cloth to white and red

Few people know it, but Monza started out in light blue. The reason was practical: a local cloth merchant gave the club a surplus of blue fabric. In the early years the team wore blue and white.

In 1932 everything changed. A 1923 study had shown that the city's historic colours were white and red. So the white shirt with a red vertical stripe was born, echoing the city flag, along with the nickname "Biancorossi".

The Iron Crown

The first crest, in 1920, was a blue shield with a red border and a golden Corona Ferrea, the Iron Crown, a symbol of the city.

The crown keeps returning to the club's badges. Today's crest, from the 2013-14 season, is a red shield with white details, topped by the crown and crossed by a vertical sword. In 2019 it was refreshed with a brighter red.

Talent for all of Italy

For decades Monza was a nursery for the big clubs. In 1986-87 Alessandro Costacurta, Francesco Antonioli and Pierluigi Casiraghi all made their professional debuts there. The shirt was also worn by Daniele Massaro and Christian Abbiati.

The club's Hall of Fame includes goalkeeper Luciano Castellini and Patrice Evra. Since 1988 the team has played at the Stadio Brianteo, known since 2020 as the U-Power Stadium for sponsorship reasons. It opened on 28 August 1988 with a 2-1 cup win over Roma.

Berlusconi, Galliani and Serie A

In 2018 Monza was bought by Silvio Berlusconi's Fininvest, with Adriano Galliani in charge. In 2022, after beating Pisa in the play-off final, the team reached Serie A for the first time in its history. On 18 September 2022, with Raffaele Palladino on the bench, it won its first match there, 1-0 against Juventus.

That first season ended in 11th place with 52 points, the second-best haul ever for a Serie A newcomer. The club's first goal in the division had come from Dany Mota.

Two calm seasons followed, until 2025 brought relegation and a sale to the American firm Beckett Layne Ventures. The absence lasted just one year. In May 2026, exactly four years after the first promotion, Monza got past Juve Stabia and Catanzaro in the play-offs and returned to Serie A.
