The most common mistake when buying a shirt online isn't the team or the design; it's the size. A match shirt can be noticeably tighter than a regular T-shirt, a retro shirt looser, and kids' sizes are measured in centimetres of height, not age. In this guide you'll see how to measure correctly, how the different types of shirt fit and how to choose the right football shirt size for yourself or as a gift.

How to measure correctly

You need a tailor's tape measure and a T-shirt that already fits you.

  • Chest: measure around the widest point, under the armpits, keeping the tape level and not too tight.
  • Width: lay your favourite T-shirt flat on a table and measure from armpit to armpit.
  • Length: measure the same T-shirt from the highest point of the shoulder to the bottom hem.

Comparing with a garment that already fits is the safest way, because every manufacturer cuts slightly differently.

Match shirt or fan shirt: the difference in fit

Most clubs release two versions of the same kit.

  • Fan shirt (replica / stadium): regular fit, like a sports T-shirt. It's the most common choice for the stadium and everyday wear; choose your usual size.
  • Match shirt (authentic / player): the same one the players wear, with lighter fabric and a slim, close fit. If you don't like a tight fit, go one size up.

Indicative adult size chart

The chart is indicative for fan shirts. If you're not sure about a specific product, ask us before you order.

If you're between two sizes, choose the larger one for a match shirt.

Kids' sizes

Kids' shirts, such as the Greece national team kids' shirt, are sized by height in centimetres. The age in the chart is only a guide; measure the child's height.

Retro shirts: how they fit

Retro shirts reproduce kits from earlier decades, when shirts were looser and often made of cotton, such as COPA's retro shirts for Maradona's Napoli. That's why they usually fit more loosely than modern shirts. For a sportier look, take your size or one smaller, and wash in cold water so the cotton doesn't shrink.
