Como was founded on 25 May 1907 in the Lombard city of the same name. On 25 May 2027 it turns 120. And it celebrates with something few could have imagined a few years ago: its first ever Champions League campaign.

A bar on Via Cinque Giornate

Como Foot-Ball Club was born from a committee of football lovers who met at the Taroni bar on Via Cinque Giornate. The bar also became the club's first headquarters. Mergers followed, with the student club Minerva in 1911 and with Esperia in 1926.

The name changed many times, from Comense and AS Como to Calcio Como. After two bankruptcies, in 2004 and 2016, the team was rebuilt in 2017 as Como 1907 and started again in Serie D.

Light blue with white details

Como's traditional colour is light blue, with white on the shorts and details. Since the 2000s the shade has become deeper, a bold royal blue, which gave rise to the nickname "Biancoblù". Fans also call the team "Lariani" and "Azzurri".

Sources do not explain why light blue was chosen. We do know that after the mergers garnet, in 1926, and green, in 1938, were briefly tried without taking root on the shirt. The home kit is usually plain light blue, while the away kit uses the same colours in reverse.

Shields and a bird that was never worn

The first crest, in 1919, was a brown ball with a white band. From the 1950s a light-blue shield with the city's coat of arms was sewn onto the shirts. The 1975-76 shirt carried the coat of arms inside a light-blue circle.

In 1984 a public contest produced a crest with a lake bird, which fans nicknamed "el gurgureu". The result was disputed and the bird never appeared on a match shirt. New crests followed in 1991 and 2017.

Tardelli, Borgonovo and the Sinigaglia

Como made its Serie A debut in 1949-50 and finished sixth. In September 1951 it even sat alone at the top of the table. In 1986 it reached the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia.

The light-blue shirts were worn by Marco Tardelli, who made his name there in the 1970s, Pietro Vierchowod and legendary centre-forward Stefano Borgonovo. Gianluca Zambrotta also came through its youth system.

Its home is the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, where it has played since 1928. It is named after the rower Giuseppe Sinigaglia, a hero who died in the First World War.

From Serie D to Europe

In 2019 the club was bought by Indonesia's Djarum Group, led by the Hartono brothers. The Serie C title came in 2021 and the return to Serie A in 2024, after 21 years. On the bench sat Cesc Fàbregas, who had ended his playing career there and also became a shareholder.

On 10 May 2026 Greek striker Tasos Douvikas scored the only goal in Verona and secured the first European qualification in the club's history. Two weeks later, with a 4-1 win away to Cremonese, Como finished fourth and booked its ticket to the Champions League, one day before its 119th birthday.
