Established in Athens on 13 April 1924 by Greek refugees from Constantinople (now Istanbul) in the wake of the Greco-Turkish War, AEK has grown to become one of the most successful clubs in Greek football, winning 29 national titles (including 11 Championships, 13 Greek Cups, 1 League Cup, 1 Pre-1991 Mediterranean Games Cup and 3 Super Cups).
The 2009/11 home shirt of AEK Athens is here to emphasize on the symbol of the Byzantium: the double-headed eagle. The symbol of Byzantine times is all around the shirt, in small size, in a watermark style.
